The story of four outsiders who turned all the wolves of Wall Street into sacrificial lambs. These four were the only ones who calculated that the world economy cannot grow indefinitely. They bet on one card, brought banks to their knees and made a fortune ruthlessly. In 2005 you could get a one hundred percent mortgage on a luxury villa with twenty bedrooms and a swimming pool in America and no one asked you whether you could afford it or had the means to pay it back. Eccentric financier and heavy metal fan Michael Burry realized that there were so many such risky mortgages that they could become a time bomb that would sooner or later blow up the entire American economy. He therefore developed an ingenious financial instrument that was supposed to bring him a huge pile of money in case the mortgage bubble burst, and he invested his entire fortune into it. The bet on uncertainty paid off for him and three similar visionaries three years later, when millions of Americans lost their roofs over their heads and their jobs and moreover covered the losses of greedy banks from their taxes.
