Jan Werich (1905–1980) was a Czech actor, writer, and cabaret artist, one of the most prominent figures of 20th-century Czech culture. Together with Jiří Voskovec he formed the duo V+W, famous for their satirical plays at the Osvobozené divadlo. He was also a beloved film actor and author of fairy tales.
