Jarek Cemerek in Třinec

Choreographer Jarek Cemerek brings two dance workshops to Třinec with contrasting approaches - extroverted jazz dance and introspective contemporary. The classes are recommended for teenagers from around 14 years old and adults. The event is organized by drzost.cz with support from DDM Třinec.

Jazz dance - 10:00 to 12:30
The class focuses on dynamic dance blending elements of African, Caribbean and European traditions - rhythmic movements, sharp footwork, body isolations and work on choreographic phrases.

Contemporary - 13:00 to 14:30
The aim of the class is to develop awareness of one's own body and its efficiency. It begins with simple strengthening exercises, with special emphasis on healthy body mechanics, principles of physical laws, effective use of weight, falls to the ground and jumps.

Jarek Cemerek studied classical ballet at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, choreography and dance pedagogy at Prague's HAMU, and completed an internship at the Theatre Academy in Helsinki. He began his career as a classical dancer at the National Theatre Moravian-Silesian, Laterna Magika and State Opera, then moved to contemporary dance. He has worked with numerous European companies - Belgian Compagnie Thor, Austrian Tanztheater Wien, Swiss Stadttheater Bern and British DV8 Physical Theatre. He taught at Juilliard School in New York, the Paris Conservatory CNSMDP, The New Zealand School of Dance and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, led classes for the Royal Ballet in Denmark, and holds a professorship in contemporary dance at Bruckner University in Linz. For his choreography Void for London's BalletBoyz at Sadler's Wells Theatre, he won the awards for Production of the Year and Dancer of the Year at the Czech Dance Platform in 2011.
