Lies Men Tell
DEKKADANCERS presents a curated evening of two choreographies united by a common theme: lies.
About Ourselves
"Life is a bridge, don't build a house on it." - V. K.
Ondřej Vinklát's choreography offers a stylized perspective on human existence in a dualistic world. The unconscious mind tends to position itself as superior to anything that might reveal its limitations - and in doing so, it can venture far beyond the boundaries of humanity. Life returns a person to harmony with the whole through lessons that, when recognized, move them toward higher understanding. Yet sometimes people remain so indifferent to these lessons that they sink to the very bottom.
During "About Ourselves," smoke and lighting effects are used (without strobe).
Lies Men Tell
The second choreography, created by Štěpán Pechar, draws from Luis Fernando Verissimo's short story "The Wedding Ring." The action takes place on the film set of a truly failed production - where the script makes about as much sense as shooting butterflies with a cannon, where there's more flirting than work, and where lies grow faster than the director's ego. Kisses are confused with slaps for so long that no one knows anymore who is playing what. The audience is addressed not only by the dancers' bodies but also by the voices of well-known personalities.
There is a 20-minute intermission between the choreographies.
