Laputa: Castle in the Sky

A boy from a mining town and a girl of mysterious origin are drawn into a quest for treasure hidden in the legendary flying city of Laputa. Along the way, they face greedy air pirates, the military, and secret agents.

Director and screenwriter Hayao Miyazaki infused the film with his fascination with flight, love of classic European adventure literature, and interest in the late 19th century - an era of aviation and airship expansion. Laputa: Castle in the Sky thus carries a distinctly European, almost Vernian character, while retaining the qualities typical of Studio Ghibli and Japanese animation in general.
