NT Live: The Fifth Step

Olivier Award winner Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Dunkirk) and Emmy and BAFTA laureate Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, In Treatment, Sherlock) star in the lead roles of a new play by David Ireland, which has been acclaimed by critics.

After years in the 12-step programme of Alcoholics Anonymous, James becomes a sponsor to newcomer Luke. They meet over coffee, exchange stories, and build a fragile friendship based on shared experience. As Luke approaches the fifth step - a moment of confession - truths begin to emerge that threaten the trust on which both their recoveries depend.

Directed by Finn den Hertog, the production was filmed live at Soho Place in London's West End.
