Conversation with Jan Přeučil

A meeting and conversation with Czech actor Jan Přeučil, organized in collaboration with the management of Safari Park Dvůr Králové.

Jan Přeučil was born in Pardubice but moved to Prague with his parents at an early age. He was admitted to DAMU (Academy of Performing Arts) on his second attempt, for political reasons, and graduated in 1960. He began his career at the Theatre on the Balustrade, where he worked for 33 years and led the drama department from 1982 to 1987. From 1963, he taught at Prague's DAMU for twenty-seven years as an associate professor - his students included Ivana Chýlková, Karel Roden, Jitka Asterová, Pavel Vítek, and Eva Holubová. He also lectures at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica.

Although primarily a theatre actor, since 1958 he has regularly appeared in film and television, accumulating over 50 film roles throughout his career, often playing negative or unsympathetic characters. Since 1960, he has performed over 400 radio roles and hundreds more in theatre, dubbing, and television. He is also devoted to rhetoric, which he teaches in seminars he calls "rhetorical laboratories".
