Unrequited Love

France, late 1950s. Rachel, half-Jewish and working as a secretary in a provincial town, falls passionately in love with Philippe - an educated man from a wealthy Parisian family. Their relationship has no future, at least not for Philippe. Rachel accepts her fate even after becoming pregnant.

French director Catherine Corsini (Summertime) adapted Christine Angot's novel and cast Virginie Efira in the lead role. The result is a melodrama with several unexpected turns, in which Efira's performance is complemented by artfully composed cinematography and production design that captures the period atmosphere of the source material.
