Exhibition of Adriena Šimotová – "Boundary" at the Benedikt Rejta Gallery in Louny

Galerie Benedikta Rejta, Louny

The Benedikt Rejta Gallery in Louny, in collaboration with the Adriena Šimotová and Jiří John Foundation, has prepared a selective retrospective marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Adriena Šimotová (1926–2014), one of the most respected figures in Czech visual art of the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition titled Boundary, conceived and curated by Pavel Brunclík with Lucie B. Šiklová as curator of the gallery, runs from 20 March to 31 May 2026. The core of the exhibition consists of large-format perforations and works using the frottage technique – works in which the artist radicalized the existentially formulated theme of human personality. The central motif of her work is communication in the broadest sense – the relationship to human identity, the possibilities of its reflection and authentic artistic expression. On display are works from the series Mapping Space – The Body of the Cloister and the series Touch with Colour – Intimate State of Weightlessness, among others. The exhibition programme also includes a curated evening "Head for Leafing Through" dedicated to Adriena Šimotová's literary work. The Louny exhibition is the first part of a loosely connected three-part exhibition cycle – it will be followed by an exhibition at Prague's Kampa Museum and the year will conclude with a more extensive presentation at the Moravian Gallery in Brno.
