Odysseus was king of the Greek island of Ithaca who, according to legend and the poet Homer, invented the famous Trojan Horse - a trick that decided the fall of Troy and ended the exhausting siege of the city. After the battles end, he desires only one thing: to return home to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus.
However, through his bold deeds he has angered the gods, who will make his journey home as difficult as possible. This is why the word "odyssey" has become synonymous with a journey full of obstacles that lead the wanderer away from his goal rather than toward it.
While Odysseus resists the gods, giants, and the enchantress Circe, his wife Penelope at home faces men who seek both her and the entire kingdom of Ithaca.
