Architectural Excursions: Reissigova Villa — Reissigova vila, Brno

Reissigova Villa is the first realized project by architect Leopold Bauer, a prominent figure in the Viennese art scene. Built in 1901-1902, it bears the hallmarks of geometric Secession and ranks among the key early 20th-century buildings in the Czech lands. Contemporary architectural press called it the most modern house in the entire Austro-Hungarian monarchy. From the outset it was designed as a unified whole - exterior and interior, including carefully considered details, form a harmonious Gesamtkunstwerk.

The excursion is part of the "Architectural Excursions" cycle, organized by the Blansko City Gallery in 2026. The cycle presents the transformation of architecture in the first third of the 20th century through buildings in Brno and its surroundings that are normally inaccessible to the public. The programme traces the path from modernism with geometric Secession elements to functionalist form, showing the aesthetic shift and cultural-social changes reflected in new materials, construction principles, and spatial solutions.
