Elsa arrives in 2004 on sunny Lanzarote to escape a life crisis and find a fresh start. But this story is written by aging acclaimed director Raúl - and the events and characters suspiciously echo the fates of those close to him. They begin to recognize themselves in the film and ask uncomfortable questions: where does inspiration end and privacy begin?

With Bitter Holidays, Pedro Almodóvar returned to the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival. It is his most personal film to date, featuring strong female characters and the vibrant colors typical of his work.
