Santini
Santiniho kostel sv. Petra a Pavla v Bobrové, Bobrová
An allegory on the theme of seeking perfection.
The Jedl theatre collective has created the project "Santini" to mark the 300th anniversary of the death of Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel, a Czech architect of Italian origin renowned for the style known as Baroque Gothic. The production travels through his buildings in Bohemia and Moravia - it premiered in 2021 in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Sedlec near Kutná Hora, Santini's first realized work.
The creators' aim is to map Santini's architectural legacy through theatrical interventions in the spaces of his individual buildings. They understand Santini's structures as immaterial networks of lines suffused with light - as buildings that articulate the manifestation of the world. This symbolic dimension of architecture aligns with the Jedl collective's long-standing artistic direction, which explores the spiritual dimension of the world and human relationships in their productions.
