Great Freedom

The story takes place in post-war Germany. The main character is Hans, who repeatedly finds himself in prison for homosexuality - homosexual relations are punishable under paragraph 175 of the criminal code, and his desire for freedom remains unfulfilled.

His only lasting relationship comes from fellow prisoner Viktor, sentenced to life for murder. The initial resistance between them gradually transforms into something that could be called love.
