Bitter Holidays

An aging director named Raúl writes a story about the enchanting Else, who arrives on sunny Lanzarote in 2004 to escape a life crisis and start anew. But the events and characters suspiciously resemble the fates of his loved ones - they begin to recognize themselves in the story and ask uncomfortable questions. Where does inspiration end and privacy begin?

Bitter Holidays is Pedro Almodóvar's most personal film to date, with which he returned to the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Strong female characters, vivid colors, and vibrant Spanish atmosphere are his signature.
