Dealer 3 closes Refn's trilogy about Copenhagen's underworld with a chilling portrait of aging gangster boss Milo. In the previous films, this Serbian godfather was merely a supporting character in the stories of Danish dealers and petty thieves stumbling helplessly beyond the law - a cheerful companion until he felt someone might betray him, then his joviality quickly gave way to ruthless brutality. This time we meet him at a meeting of anonymous addicts: Milo wants to quit using so he can keep a clear head for more important things.

He's organizing a feast for his daughter's wedding reception, while dealing with a botched drug shipment and, as an aging veteran, facing ambitious young upstarts who could be either new allies or unwanted competition. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Refn once again paints an unflattering portrait of the underworld without the usual myths and Hollywood glorification. After the tense existential first installment and the Oedipal tragedy of the second, he closes the trilogy with a disturbing portrait of a man who seeks no way out and dreams of no different future - he is the biggest fish in the pond precisely because he is in his element. Having blood on his hands is as mundane to him as preparing traditional delicacies for a wedding feast. The price of his position is not fear for his life, but stress and solitude. A Croatian-born actor living in Denmark, Zlatko Buric, brilliantly captured all the layers of this ambiguous character - as the only member of the large ensemble cast, he appears in all three films of the trilogy.
