This film adaptation of the Broadway musical follows the story of Roxie Hart, an ordinary chorus dancer who commits murder for fame. Behind bars, she finds herself alongside cabaret star Velma Kelly - together they compete for media attention and public favor with the help of a cunning lawyer, Billy Flynn.

Flynn transforms Roxie into the hottest tabloid sensation, setting the stage for a singing and dancing showdown between two excessively ambitious rivals. The lead roles are played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renée Zellweger, and Richard Gere. The film won six Academy Awards in 2003, including Best Picture.
