Concert for the Anniversary of the Republic - Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc

The Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc will perform a festive concert in Šumperk on the occasion of the Day of the Founding of the Independent Czechoslovak State. The programme features works by Czech and Slovak composers, the national anthems of both countries, and two solo performances.

Violin virtuoso Jiří Vodička, concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic, will perform the Violin Concerto in D major op. 35 by Erich Wolfgang Korngold - a composer renowned for his film scores for Hollywood films of the 1930s and 1940s. The orchestra will then be conducted by Slovak conductor and violinist Maroš Potokár, concertmaster of the State Philharmonic Košice, in Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 6 in D major op. 60. This symphony, sometimes called the "Czech" symphony, was created during Dvořák's so-called Slavonic period and bears distinct echoes of Czech folk music.

The concert is organized by the Šumperk House of Culture in cooperation with the Olomouc Region and the City of Šumperk. The programme duration, including intermission, is approximately 100 minutes.
