Orwell: 2+2=5

DOX presents a summer film evening under the stars featuring the documentary Orwell: 2+2=5.

The film follows George Orwell's final months in 1949, as he completed the novel 1984, and explores the roots of the concepts he revealed to the world: Doublethink, Thoughtcrime, Newspeak, and the omnipresent specter of Big Brother. It is a feature-length documentary made in exclusive collaboration with the Orwell Estate, directed by Raoul Peck, a BAFTA award winner and Oscar nominee.

Peck uses Orwell's life, work, and legacy to trace how "Newspeak" of authoritarian structures survives today in unexpected places - from AI chatbots and Russian propaganda to commercial branches of the metaverse and political book bans in the American South. "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past..." Orwell wrote in the novel 1984.
