The Bishopric of Ostrava-Opava is the administrative office of the youngest Roman Catholic diocese in the Czech Republic, established on 30 May 1996 by a bull of John Paul II. The diocese was carved out of the Archdiocese of Olomouc and covers all of Czech Silesia and part of northern Moravia. The bishop's residence in Moravská Ostrava was completed in 2000.
