The National Museum Competition Gloria musaealis is a prestigious nationwide competition announced jointly by the Ministry of Culture, the Association of Museums and Galleries of the Czech Republic, and the Czech Committee of ICOM. Its goal is to draw public attention to outstanding achievements in museum work, including the creation of exhibitions and new permanent displays, presentation of collections in professional publications, and the preservation and accessibility of cultural and natural heritage sites. The competition operates in three main categories: Museum Exhibition of the Year, Museum Publication of the Year, and Museum Initiative of the Year. The highest award is the Gloria musaealis Prize, consisting of a trophy, diploma, and monetary award of 70,000 CZK, granted by the Czech Minister of Culture based on the competition commission's recommendation. In each category, the top three projects are ranked, and museums may also receive special recognition or the Czech ICOM Committee Prize (diploma and financial award of 30,000 CZK). The current 24th edition of the competition runs from January 1, 2025 to February 28, 2026, with 61 institutions submitting a total of 96 projects. The ceremonial presentation of the 2025 Gloria musaealis Prizes will take place on May 18, 2026 at the Nostitz Palace Riding School in Prague, traditionally on the occasion of International Museum Day.
