Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Spielberg's 1977 sci-fi film follows an ordinary American, Roy Neary, who witnesses mysterious lights in the night sky. Similar phenomena soon appear across the country - electrical power vanishes inexplicably, and abandoned bombers missing since 1945 are discovered in the middle of the desert. No one can explain how they got there.

The film was developed with astronomer and UFO research director in Illinois Prof. Allen Hynek, and special effects were handled by Douglas Trumbull.
