Angel's Egg

Angel's Egg is a haunting animated film by Mamoru Oshii told with minimal dialogue. It follows the journey of a Girl and a Boy: she fiercely guards an egg, believing an angel will hatch from it, while he wants to break it open and discover what truly lies inside.

This post-apocalyptic allegory was written and directed by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), with artwork by Yoshitaka Amano (known from the Final Fantasy series). At its original release, it was a marginal curiosity - only as both creators gained prominence did the film become a cult title among fans of Japanese animation and art cinema.
