Domovina

It is 1949 and Thomas Mann returns to Germany after sixteen years - accompanied by his daughter Erika - to receive two awards: one in Frankfurt under American control, the other in Weimar under Soviet administration. Midway through their journey, the pair is struck by news of a sudden family tragedy.

The film can be read as a probe into post-war society, an intimate family drama, a road movie balancing between myths and reality, and as a story about the role of the intellectual in a time of upheaval. Starring Hanns Zischler and Sandra Hüller, cinematography by Łukasz Żal.
