Pramen

An elegant doctor, Ingrid (Aňa Geislerová), works in the mid-1980s at a remote provincial hospital. She is trapped by an exhausted marriage and a stagnating career - spending most of her time with patients, delivering babies, and ending unwanted pregnancies. She also performs sterilizations on Romani women without their full understanding of the consequences.

A new friendship with a young hospital attendant, Agáta, prompts Ingrid to see things differently and begin questioning the rules she has hitherto followed without thought.

Ivan Ostrochovský's drama opens an unresolved chapter of Czechoslovak history, when the state decided who could have children.
