James Gunn described the film as a space adventure similar to Guardians of the Galaxy - that says quite a bit ;)

When an unexpected and cruel enemy strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) reluctantly embarks on a journey alongside someone she definitely wouldn't have expected. Together they set out on an interstellar expedition for justice.
