A Visit to Kill
Theatre Stará Střelnice, Hranice
An exceptional play demands an exceptional cast. Peter and Debbie are a typical middle-aged British couple. Work pressures have drained their relationship, their children are going through puberty and they struggle to understand them... And then, unexpectedly, an eccentric American woman named Elsa rings their doorbell. They met her during a holiday cruise and parted with a vague promise to meet again someday. The surprised couple naturally tries to be perfect hosts, but Debbie makes the "mistake" of googling Elsa's name. From that moment on, they have only one goal - to get rid of their unexpected guest as quickly as possible. After all, the old saying "a guest in the house is God in the house" doesn't always hold true... A Visit to Kill is a brilliantly written comedy that, alongside its original plot, expertly constructed situations and sparkling dialogue, also raises thought-provoking questions: Should our politeness, helpfulness and consideration really be boundless? Where is their limit? And what can we actually trust in today's over-mediatized world? Does it help us, or do we lose ourselves in it? The play is written by acclaimed British screenwriter Steven Moffat, author of the cult TV series Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and the series Doctor Who. Its premiere on the London stage was a sensation. A Visit to Kill showcases British humor at its finest.
