Frank Zappa Quartet
Frank Zappa Quartet (FZQ) is a Moravian band that plays the music of American guitarist and rock musician Frank Zappa in roughly original versions with maximum commitment. The band's first official performance took place on November 7, 2003 in Vizovice (Muzikus 2/2004, page 6). Later that same year, the band performed at the Prague club Vagon in the presence of Petr Dorůžka, author of the book "Zappa's Drawer". The band is loosely connected to the Czech Frank Zappa Fan Club (see www.zappa.mypage.cz), which has been trying without success to get FZQ onto specialized international festivals (such as Zappanale in Bad Doberau in the former East Germany). The original four-member FZQ lineup expanded in 2005 to include a second guitarist (quintet). In 2010, a saxophonist joined as a guest (occasionally a sextet). The band now plays not only Frank Zappa. For listeners, FZQ concerts are a chance to hear the Master's music in live performance. The band performs approximately 10-12 concerts per year, mostly in Moravia. Traditional are FZQ concerts on the occasion of the Master's birth and death anniversaries, which are always held in December in Brno (Stará Pekárna). The band regularly performs in Zlín, Olomouc, and elsewhere.
