Vyshyvanka Day is an international celebration dedicated to the traditional embroidered shirt – the vyshyvanka – a symbol of identity, continuity, and belonging in Ukrainian culture. Each region of Ukraine has its own patterns, colours, and ornaments that carry historical and cultural significance. Holešovická tržnice hosts the fifth edition of this community event in 2026 on Thursday, 21 May from 11:00 to 22:00 on Tržní Square. The celebration is observed annually on the third Thursday in May and aims to commemorate and preserve the tradition of wearing embroidered garments.

The all-day programme will feature gastronomy (Ukrainian and Central European cuisine prepared in collaboration with the Archetyp association, organizer of farmers' markets), music (performances by children's choirs, soloists, and musical ensembles from various genres), folklore and traditional folk dances (a new element this year), a craft market under the auspices of the Organization for Refugee Assistance (OPU), workshops, and presentations by Ukrainian organizations operating in Czechia. A new feature this year is the involvement of the Gift for Putin initiative with charitable merchandise. Admission is voluntary and proceeds go to OPU. The event was created five years ago in direct response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and today connects the Czech and Ukrainian communities – approximately 170,000 Ukrainians live in Prague, with only half of them having fled the war. The event is organized in collaboration between Holešovická tržnice, the Archetyp association, and OPU; it is supported by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Czech Republic. The media partner is Czech Radio Prague.
