Marcela Vichrová – I Went to the Butcher's
Galerie Středočeského kraje GASK, Kutná Hora
The Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region in Kutná Hora presents an exhibition by Marcela Vichrová titled "I Went to the Butcher's", running from 1 March to 31 May 2026. The collection of large-format paintings and intimate drawings draws from everyday experience, personal memory, and relationships with family and landscape. The exhibition title references a laconic message found on a note: "I went to the butcher's..." – a simple sentence that contains an entire world.
Marcela Vichrová (born 1968, Strakonice) comes from the Prácheňsko region, with family roots in the Šumava foothills of Podlesí. After completing secondary art school in Prague's Žižkov district, she studied at Prague's Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, where she finished her studies in 1992 in the monumental painting studio of Pavel Nešleha. The fundamental and dominant element of her paintings is the coloured line – in rhythmic alternation of bright colours, curves repeat, connect and return, creating structures reminiscent of embroidery, quartz layers in agate, graphic matrices or maps. The artist has long been drawn to folk art and to the spiritual and artistic traditions of indigenous cultures of Australia, Africa and America. She is also close to untrained expression – in recent years she has responded in her work to the children's drawings of her sons, which brings her work closer to certain positions of art brut despite her academic training.
The opening reception took place on 28 February 2026 at 16:00. The exhibition is curated by Mgr. Vanda Skálová.
