FRANTIŠEK PAVLÍČEK: DÁVNO, DÁVNO JIŽ TOMU (A REPORT ON BURIALS IN BOHEMIA)

Three deaths and three funerals serve as a prism through which the play examines the character of Božena Němcová and the cruelty of the era, in which the author found parallels with the time of the work's creation.

Božena Němcová was struck by the death of her son Hynek and the death of K. H. Borovský, after which police pressure on the Němcová family intensified. The grandeur of her own funeral then starkly contrasted with the poverty in which the writer lived at the end of her life.
