Caravan
Forty-five-year-old Ester is completely absorbed in caring for her son David, who suffers from severe intellectual disability. A trip to Italy to visit friends becomes a welcome escape from the grinding routine – but a change of scenery doesn't alter the fact that life with David is not easy.
Ester impulsively decides to start up an old caravan that was originally meant to be their holiday home, and transforms it into an instrument of freedom. The journey through sunny Italy becomes healing for both: Ester rediscovers in herself, if only for a moment, the person who has the right not only to give love, but also to receive it.
An intimate road movie that brought Czech cinema back to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival after more than thirty years. The film touches on themes of physicality and soul, freedom and surrender, hope and helplessness with both tenderness and unflinching honesty.
