Exhibition SHOOTERS AT THE QUEEN / Art in Public Space of the Moravian-Silesian Region 1948–1989
kostel sv. Václava, Opava
The exhibition "Shooters at the Queen", prepared by the Opava Cultural Organization (OKO), presents a selection of works from public spaces from 1948 to 1989 in the territory of the present-day Moravian-Silesian Region. The exhibition is curated by Martin Pavlíček. The exhibition shows what art looked like that surrounded people every day on housing estates, in schools, and in front of factories — monumental sculptures, monuments, and murals expressing the values of the socialist state. Visitors will see works made from various materials, as well as sketches, studies, and models that reveal the process of their creation. The exhibition also highlights that this layer of cultural memory is today threatened by insensitive interventions or demolitions. The opening reception took place on May 21, 2026 at 5 p.m., and the exhibition will run until September 13, 2026. Open daily except Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (last entry at 5:30 p.m.). Holders of the Opava Silesia Tourist Card are entitled to a 50% discount on admission.
