Ex

Ex is a tragicomedy by German playwright Mark von Mayenburg and the first part of his loose trilogy, which has not yet been performed in the Czech Republic. The Czech premiere will take place on 14 May 2026 at Divadlo v Řeznické.

The play centres on a dialogue between married couple Daniel and Sibille — both have successful careers, are raising two children, and live a life of upper-middle-class comfort whose superficial harmony masks a deepening emptiness in their relationship. When one evening Daniel's former girlfriend Franziska calls asking for help and eventually appears at their door, grievances and mutual resentment begin to surface. Over the course of a single night, the drama encompasses the entire arc of their life together — from its beginnings to its dissolution.

The text offers three striking acting opportunities and combines psychological depth with philosophical lightness. The play premiered at Stockholm's Riksteatern in 2021; the German premiere at Berlin's Schaubühne took place in March 2025 in the author's own direction.
