Retrospective of Jana Boková
The director travels from Seville to Cádiz to explore flamenco as a Romani artistic form passed down through extended families—so-called "dynasties". Most of the interviewed artists are not professionals: they are farmers or basket-weavers who master flamenco with the skill and pride of professionals.
The tension of flamenco is both intimate and individual. "I think flamenco could have come from crying," reflects singer Chocolate. Boková films unobtrusively—life in southern Spain flows naturally before the camera.
