The Last Dream of Frida and Diego | Gabriela Lena Frank
400 Kč · ≈ 16 €
The debut opera by American composer Gabriela Lena Frank. This musical portrait of the famous Mexican painter couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera was created to a libretto by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz. The opera is constructed in the spirit of magical realism as an inverted myth of Orpheus and Eurydice: on the Day of the Dead, Frida leaves the underworld and reunites with Diego to briefly experience the passion and pain of their love together, bidding the world of the living a final farewell.
The world premiere is conducted by music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The new production, inspired by paintings by Frida and Diego, is directed by Deborah Colker, who is also the choreographer.
