Emil or On Hácha
For what I have done, the nation will call me a traitor.
This production explores the personality of the third Czechoslovak president, Dr. Emil Hácha, who died while awaiting trial in a hospital at Pankrác Prison and was buried in an unmarked grave at Vyšehrad Cemetery as a collaborator and traitor. Only after the Velvet Revolution did he receive partial rehabilitation — disputes about his legacy have persisted and flared up again on the occasion of the anniversary of his death. Can they ever be resolved definitively and fairly? And what do these discussions reveal about today and about people themselves?
The production received a nomination for the Theatre Critics' Award 2021 in the category "Czech Play Premiered for the First Time", a nomination from i-divadlo.cz editors in the category "Production of the Year 2021", and the Mark Ravenhill Award for 2020 and 2021 for the best production of contemporary Czech drama.
