Lichens + Holoseč
Lichens / Ondřej Vavrečka / 2024, Czech Republic, Slovakia / 43 min. – Lichens are a combination of fungus and algae: two entities that decided to cooperate. The relationship between them is more important to the lichen than the relationship of one living organism to itself – fungi struggle with photosynthesis, algae with sugar breakdown, but their connection brings advantages to both. The film shot in the Canadian wilderness speaks about a dimension of life through its images and through the experience and discoveries of two biologists, Trevor Goward and Curtis Randall Björk.
Holoseč / Mikoláš Arsenjev / Czech Republic, 2020 / 14 min. – A black-and-white film contemplates with powerful images the pressure of logging in forests affected by bark beetle calamities and other mass harvesting. Abstracted, sometimes surrealist shots lead the viewer to a different perception of nature and what we consider sustainable. The film won the Pavel Koutecký Award.
Double feature with a total runtime of 57 minutes.
