Jewish Traces in Žižkov — Kostel sv. Prokopa, Žižkov
Description was written before the event

World War II and the subsequent period of totalitarianism severed many ties, yet traces of the former coexistence of the majority society with the Jewish community still exist in Žižkov today.

The walk will reveal where the Jewish prayer house stood, why no synagogue was built here, who hid whom, where a later-famous scientist lived, what was forbidden during the Protectorate, and which luxury houses were designed by Jewish architects and engineers. The tour includes a visit to the Old Jewish Cemetery in Žižkov; the New Jewish Cemetery is not included in the route.

Practical Information:

- Guides: Kateřina Lopatová & Dana Schlaichertová – art historians with guide licenses, in collaboration with the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, authors of the concept "City as a Classroom"; they will focus on historical and art-historical contexts (they are not Hebraists)
- Duration: approximately 2 hours, route approximately 2.5 km
- End: near Flora
