Water in the Landscape Exhibition at the National Agricultural Museum

Národní zemědělské muzeum, Prague

The permanent interactive exhibition Water in the Landscape is located on the second floor of the main building of the National Agricultural Museum in Prague (Kostelní 44, Prague 7) and is accessible through the Agriculture exhibition. The centrepiece of the exhibition is a three-dimensional model of the Czech Republic, onto which 'stories' of water are projected — the main fishpond systems, watersheds and water divides come alive, and the real causes and patterns of flooding are explained in contrast with the driest regions of the Czech Republic.

In glass cylinders, visitors can experience various properties and roles of water in the landscape — the force of water, water infiltration, and also how we handle and consume it. Interactive glass 'books' provide information about water as the foundation of life, the water cycle in nature, and healing water — mineral springs. All thematic sections prioritize the role of humans, whose activities can positively or negatively affect water management, water resources in the landscape, and the use of its energy.

A guided programme is offered for the exhibition (guided tour with a lecturer for 80 CZK per person, minimum 5 participants, booking at lektor@nzm.cz). The museum is open every day except Monday, and entry for children and young people is free. Note: two exhibits are currently being repaired in the exhibition (Pumped-storage power station and Water mill); all other exhibits are fully functional.
