Butterflies in the Fata Morgana Greenhouse in Troja – Exhibition of Live Tropical Butterflies 2026

The exhibition of live tropical butterflies in the Fata Morgana greenhouse runs from April 2 to May 17, 2026, under the theme "The Art of Survival." The greenhouse has hosted butterfly exhibitions regularly since opening to the public in 2004. Over 5,500 pupae of several dozen butterfly species from a butterfly farm in Stratford-upon-Avon will gradually arrive in the garden. In the Fata Morgana greenhouse, visitors will be surrounded by hundreds of freely flying tropical butterflies – including the brilliant blue Morpho peleides, the nocturnal Attacus atlas, large owl butterflies of the genus Caligo, and the monarch butterfly. This year's theme showcases how butterflies defend themselves against predators: from inconspicuous eggs and perfectly camouflaged caterpillars to adults with striking coloration or patterns resembling eyes.

A unique moment of the visit is witnessing butterflies emerging from their pupae. The exhibition continues in the Exhibition Hall in the Ornamental Garden with the interactive exhibition "Secrets of Butterfly Life," where visitors can try out a butterfly's proboscis, examine wing structure under a microscope, and learn the story of the endangered marbled white butterfly. On weekends and holidays, guided tours take place every hour from 10 to 1 p.m. (included in admission). Children can participate in themed art workshops on the terrace in front of the greenhouse (11 a.m. to 5 p.m., materials from 50 CZK, cash payment only). The greenhouse is open Tuesday–Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It was exceptionally open on Easter Monday, April 6. During the butterfly exhibition, strollers are not permitted in the greenhouse. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket offices or online in the botanical garden's e-shop (online tickets are approximately 15% cheaper).
