Jindřich Bílek – Between Bow and Brush
Art Palace Prague, Prague
Art Palace Prague presents the exhibition Jindřich Bílek – Between Bow and Brush, dedicated to a prominent painter of the West Bohemian cultural scene whose work oscillates between music and painting, rhythm and color, emotion and gesture. The exhibition, open from April 15 to August 31, 2026, showcases a selection of the artist's work with emphasis on figurative compositions. A significant unifying element in Bílek's paintings is the color blue, which appears throughout his work in various shades – from deep to vibrantly saturated – and becomes a carrier of energy, mood, and inner musical rhythm. Jindřích Bílek's work is characterized by eruptive energy and the ability to connect inner musical experience with visual expression. Jindřích Bílek (1950–2014) ranks among the prominent figures of the visual arts life in West Bohemia. His artistic path was shaped from the beginning by two equally important currents – music and visual art. He studied cello at the Prague Conservatory and visual arts at the Faculty of Education in Plzeň. For many years he worked as a teacher at the music school in Klatovy. Jazz became the central motif of his painting – on canvas he paid tribute to figures such as Louis Armstrong and Bill Evans, as well as to anonymous musicians and dancers captured in an intense moment of movement. In addition to chamber works, he also created monumental works in public spaces. He exhibited in Germany and France, and his work is represented in gallery and private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad.
