Concert of Traditional Roma Music II
The second evening of traditional Roma music at La Fabrika features three ensembles: the Lithuanian Sare Roma, Hungarian Vojake Shave, and Bulgarian Karandila Orkestar with vocalist Maya Atanasova.
Sare Roma
The Lithuanian ensemble Sare Roma is among the most renowned Roma formations in Lithuania and has been performing since the 1990s. Their repertoire blends the music of Lithuanian Roma—with motifs from Russian and Polish Roma folklore—with more contemporary pop compositions. The group is led by vocalist Ištvan Kvik, who gained fame in Lithuania through his participation in the national Eurovision selection. Their concerts combine singing, music, and dance into a theatrical show.
Vojake Shave
The Hungarian band Vojake Shave (meaning "happy men" in Romani) consists of musicians from Roma musical families. They draw from the musical tradition of Hungarian Roma, and their repertoire is built on original Roma songs, including energetic čapáš pieces. They regularly perform at festivals in Hungary and abroad.
Maya Atanasova and Karandila Orkestar
Karandila Orchestra comes from the Bulgarian city of Sliven and combines the tradition of Bulgarian brass bands with the rhythm of swing, bebop, and Oriental melodies in its music. The ensemble has performed at major European festivals. Vocalist Maya Atanasova, a representative of the younger generation of the Bulgarian Roma scene, joins the band on stage. The programme also includes Roma songs from the film "Gypsies Go to Heaven".
