About: Molière

Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière (1622-1673), stands as the defining name in French theatrical comedy - a playwright who, under the Sun King's protection, wrote with such surgical wit about hypocrisy and human folly that words like "harpagon" passed straight into everyday language. His plays have held the world's stages without interruption for over three and a half centuries.
