Brothers & Sisters
Palác Akropolis, Prague
"Brothers & Sisters" is a production by Theatre NIE inspired by the real experiences of young people with mental health challenges. The show is based on documentary materials and feedback from audiences of the production "Museum of Memories". The performance follows five young people as they attempt to reconstruct the events that led to the breakdown of their friendship — gradually revealing how one person's psychological struggles affected their relationships when they were 15 years old.
The production focuses on mental illness in close relationships: what it is like to face one's own psychological difficulties, and how to support someone going through a hard time. Beyond its artistic merit, the project aims to create a more comprehensive picture of the current state of mental health among young people.
Scenography and lighting design play a crucial role — the space consists of two "houses" made of transparent fabric that serve as spaces for performance and projection while also representing different emotions. The music and songs were composed by Helder Deploige specifically for this production; the actors perform them live on stage. The production combines physical and visual theatre, music, humour, and storytelling.
Renewed premiere. In English with Czech subtitles.
