Nebojsy + Angela Nwagbo: Confluence — Palác Akropolis, Prague

Nebojsy

"It was, it won't be, in one house..."

A personal confession by the performers invites you into the depths of a house and to the edge of your own and others' bodies. Tereza has just moved in, Klára bakes cookies at home, and Kristýna is celebrating her eighteenth birthday.

An immersive production by Tereza Holubová, Klára Kočárková, and Kristýna Štarhová explores the inner space of rejection, being trapped within oneself, and the boundary between giving life or not. Through gesture, step, and word, the performers traverse their territory of emptiness, loss, or discovery - together with the audience, thanks to them and through them, they allow themselves the risk of embarking on their own path in the moment that follows.

"The second work of Nebojsy is like when someone suddenly pulls you off the road before a speeding truck. Three documentary stories of three women, inside which you will physically find yourself, will mercilessly draw you into their family constellations. For a moment you will believe that you are part of it, not just as voyeurs, but as direct participants in events that unfold in parallel. The order of the stories is drawn by lot and you move through the space of Palác Akropolis, which is inhabited with incredible coziness." Miřenka Čechová, 13.11.2023

The production was created thanks to the Emergency Dances IV project and Tantehorse.

Confluence

Czech-Nigerian performer Angela Nwagbo unfolds an intimate exploration of the layered world of cultural, linguistic, and social identity in her original performance Confluence. At the intersection of physical theatre, dance, documentary testimony, and anthropological theatre, her journey of self-discovery unfolds - the story of a woman moving between two continents, between roots and the present, between society's expectations and her own truth.

Confluence touches on ethnic identity, intercultural dialogue, and the desire for belonging. Music, fashion, and movement connect African and Slavic folklore with Western and African dance forms, creating a new, distinctive language of storytelling. The performance is also a mirror reflecting unspoken prejudices and a vision of a world where diversity means not division, but connection.

Angela Nwagbo is an actress and dancer of Czech-Nigerian origin.
