Justin Lavash
Kaštan - Scéna Unijazzu, Prague
Justin Lavash's music moves between blues, folk, and jazz. He describes himself as a fingerstyle guitarist and draws inspiration from British folk legends like Richard Thompson and John Martyn, though as a younger artist he also incorporates elements of New Wave and other dance genres. His deep voice carries lyrics that are often autobiographical and marked by a sharp sense of irony.
He moved to the Czech Republic in 2004 and has since collaborated with and written songs for artists including Lenka Dusilová, Monika Načeva, Radůza, Moimir Papalescu, DG307, Vladimír Merta, and Michal Horáček. His compositions "Brother" (2012) and "Dizzy and Stranded in Prague" (2013) appeared on albums that won the Anděl music award. With Jiří Burian he wrote two songs for the film "Buď chlap" and with Aid Kid (Ondra Mikula) a song for "Její tělo" - both films premiered in 2023. He has also performed on Czech Television's programmes Kultura+ and Na moll.
On his studio album Changing Of Tides (Tranzistor, 2015) he moves between blues, country, jazz, funk, and soul. The album Programmed (2016) combines slide guitar blues with electronic styles, received top marks in Reflex magazine, and was played on Czech radio, especially Radio 1. On the album E Train (2022) he collaborated with drummer Roman Lomtadze and keyboardist Robert Vašíček. He has also released two live recordings, Live in Prague (2015 and 2018).
