I Love You, I Leave You
Swiss musician Dino Brandão travels to Angola for a concert, the birthplace of his father. Confronting his father's past and questions of his own identity trigger a profound existential crisis. Filmmaker Moris Freiburghaus documents his friend and those close to him through a subsequent manic episode marked by police conflicts, escapes from psychiatric care, and distorted perception of reality.
The film explores how to cope when someone close falls ill with a mental disorder, and how the person affected experiences it themselves. It addresses how to help and protect them while preserving their trust.
As a public figure, Dino Brandão finds himself in a vulnerable life situation and speaks openly about his bipolar disorder - a diagnosis still heavily stigmatized in society.
