Impatience of the Heart

A failed bowling throw brings Isaac and Edith together. What begins as an attempt at compensation soon becomes something more serious - a young soldier of the German army seeks closeness with a woman in a wheelchair whom he has accidentally injured, and finds himself caught in uncertainty.

From guilt emerges affection, from compassion a dependency that draws both deeper into a web of self-deception and longing. The more Isaac tries to "heal" Edith, the clearer it becomes how thin the line is between care and paternalism.

Director Lauro Cress updates Stefan Zweig's novel and asks: where lies the boundary between compassion and the desire to become a saviour?
