Film Evening: Joker

Failed comedian Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) walks a thin line between reality and madness. One day, dressed as a clown, he wanders the streets of Gotham City and gets into conflict with brutal criminals. A spiral of events gradually unfolds, reaching terrifying proportions - abandoned by everyone, Fleck slowly descends into madness and transforms into an icon of crime known to the world as the Joker. The film, directed by Todd Phillips (Borat, The Hangover trilogy), also features Robert De Niro.

Screening in original language with Czech subtitles, runtime 122 minutes.

The evening will be introduced by Ondřej Peterka: "Hi, I'm Ondra and I love films. They say great art should work on its own, but I believe that with a bit of context it can be even better. In the film club I'll focus on films where this is absolutely true - titles that defined a new genre, launched new faces to stardom, or represent the peak of distinctive creators' work. There will be a brief introduction before the film, and you can stay for discussion afterwards."
